Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, released in 2017, is an epic action film from India directed by S. S. Rajamouli, who collaborated with V. Vijayendra Prasad on the screenplay. The movie was produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni under the Arka Media Works banner. It was created within the Tollywood industry, known for Telugu language films, and was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. The ensemble cast of Baahubali 2 features esteemed actors such as Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishna, Sathyaraj, Nassar, and Subbaraju.

Baahubali 2 serves as both a sequel and a prequel to its predecessor, Baahubali: The Beginning, and follows the rivalry between Amarendra Baahubali and Bhallaladeva, brothers who are pitted against each other. The treacherous Bhallaladeva succeeds in killing Amarendra with the help of Kattappa. After a considerable period, the son of Amarendra emerges to seek retribution for the untimely demise of his beloved father.

The movie was crafted with an approximate budget of ₹250 crores ($37 million), marking it as the costliest Indian film of its time. The production of this cinematic endeavor commenced on 17th December 2015 at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The cinematography was handled by K. K. Senthil Kumar, while editing was done by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. The production design was executed by Sabu Cyril, and the action sequences were choreographed by Peter Hein. R. Kamalakannan led the team responsible for the visual effects, with assistance from Adel Adili and Pete Draper. The captivating soundtrack and background music was composed by M. M. Keeravani. On 28th April 2017, the epic saga of Baahubali 2 graced the screens across multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam. It later captivated audiences in Japan, Russia, and China through its dubbed versions. This cinematic masterpiece was showcased in both traditional 2D and IMAX formats. Notably, it achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first-ever Telugu film to release in 4K High Definition format.

The film achieved remarkable success at the box office, grossing ₹1,737.68 crore - ₹1,810.60 crore worldwide ($280.7 million). It briefly held the title of the highest-grossing Indian film of all time, surpassing PK (2014), and collected approximately ₹789 crores worldwide within just six days of its release. Baahubali 2 crossed the ₹1,000 crore mark within ten days, becoming the first Indian film to achieve this feat. Within India, it broke numerous records and emerged as the highest-grossing film in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages. It stands as the highest-grossing film in India and the second-highest-grossing Indian film globally. The film sold over 100 million tickets during its theatrical run, a record-breaking achievement since the release of Sholay (1975).

Baahubali 2, like its predecessor, garnered widespread acclaim for Rajamouli's direction, engaging storytelling, impressive cinematography, thematic depth, stunning visual effects, melodious music, exhilarating action sequences, powerful performances, and emotional impact. It received praise from both the audience and the film industry, cementing its status as one of the greatest Indian epic action films. The film achieved remarkable recognition, earning accolades such as the Saturn Award for Best International Film, along with three National Film Awards. Plot.

Kattappa proceeds to recount the circumstances that compelled him to assassinate Amarendra Bahubali. Following their triumph over the Kalakeyas, Amarendra is hailed as the rightful heir to the throne, while Bhallaladeva is designated as the kingdom's future commander-in-chief. Rajmata Sivagami Devi, the queen's mother, decides to send Amarendra on a secret expedition accompanied by Kattappa to expand his knowledge of political affairs. During their journey, Amarendra witnesses the courageous Princess Devasena of the Kuntala kingdom, also known as Thevasenai, valiantly defending herself against a group of assailants. Enthralled by her bravery, Amarendra approaches her after the skirmish, assuming the guise of a humble commoner, while Kattappa poses as his uncle. Through this ruse, they manage to gain entrance to the royal palace of Kuntala, with Amarendra serving as a palace guard.

Meanwhile, Bhallaladeva becomes aware of Amarendra's actions and, upon seeing Devasena's portrait, develops an infatuation and an ardent desire to marry her. Bhallaladeva manipulates the situation and persuades Shivagami to promise him Devasena's hand in marriage, unaware of Amarendra's love for her. Shivagami dispatches an emissary to Kuntala to propose the marriage, but the emissary condescendingly conveys the message, provoking Devasena's anger. She vehemently rejects the proposal, delivering a scathing response. Upon receiving Devasena's defiant reply, Shivagami issues an order for Amarendra to bring Devasena to Mahishmati as a captive.


Release

Initially, the release of Baahubali 2 was planned for the summer of 2016. However, it was postponed to November of the same year due to the preparations required for the international release of its predecessor, The Beginning, in various locations. Subsequently, the release date was further pushed to 28th April 2017. Initially, there were speculations about the combined budget of both films, The Beginning and The Conclusion, amounting to approximately ₹2.5 billion. This speculation was later confirmed by Rajamouli in 2015. However, the overall budget for the series was increased to ₹4.3 billion, with ₹1.8 billion allocated for The Beginning and ₹2.5 billion for The Conclusion. Notably, the climax sequence of The Conclusion alone incurred a cost of 300 million, nearly double the expense of The Beginning's climax.
